Small Town Locker Breakdown: A $380 Unit That Took Three Saturdays

A real inventory recap, including the items that slowed the whole flip.

We bought this unit at a rural facility with a light crowd and slow bidding. It looked simple: a couch, some bins, and a stack of boxes. It was not simple.

The buy

  • Hammer price: $380
  • Facility cleanout window: 48 hours
  • Truck rental: $110
  • Dump fees: $65

What sold fast

  • Pair of solid wood nightstands ($180)
  • Fishing gear lot ($120)
  • Small tool set ($75)

What burned time

The couch was water damaged and had to be hauled out. The bins were full of paper, cables, and random kitchen items that took hours to sort and clean. We also had a broken flat screen TV that went straight to recycling.

Final result

We cleared just over $600 in sales after four weekends and two local pickup runs. The unit was profitable but slower than expected. The lesson: low competition does not mean easy money. When the labor is high, the price ceiling has to be lower.
